The house has APN clearance, allowing credit card use, and this term of service below. …
“WE ARE NOT IN THE SHIPPING BUSINESS!! WE USE OUR LOCAL UPS STORE FOR PACKING AND SHIPPING! THEY SET THE SHIPPING RATES!!!”
Our reply?
“YOU SHOULD BE IN THE SHIPPING BUSINESS!! YOU SHOULD DO YOUR OWN PACKING AND SHIPPING! YOU SHOULD SET RATES INEXPENSIVELY!!!”
Why pay for APN clearance and require bidders to give their credit card data to a third party? Why not get with the Internet age if you hope to sell on a portal?
We’re hoping Proxibid flags these houses so that bidders know they can securely purchase online without risking credit card data with a third-party out of the portal’s control.
The auction industry is changing; the internet has provided us with a worldwide market place, unlike any media ever. Auctioneers, like most other business wants to jump on & reap the benefits to this global market, however most do not have any training, knowledge on how to do it. Sadly, I do not think the auction schools embrace online selling for that matter, I know the one I went to does not. It is essential that auctioneers understand it is not ‘all’ about getting higher prices for their items, It requires more than just posting descriptions & photos. Online auctions require, good descriptions, obverse & reverse photographs, proper method of the actual sale (live or timed) & finally consideration for the bidder on providing the lowest cost for shipping possible & this will only happen with in-house shipping. An auctioneer who farms out shipping is ‘not’ doing his bidders any favors. With coin auctions, there is no reason to not pack & ship in house period.
Shipping is a service, part of the business, not a profit center of excess or something that is not the auction company’s responsibility to ensure it is done fair.
Once more your perspective has enriched the post. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of the auction business with our viewers, Ron!
I fully agree with your evaluation!
If I learned this after the close of the auction, having won a lot or two, I would immediately place this seller on my “DO NOT BID” list.
Thank you! I have a DO NOT BID list, too. We always appreciate your comments, Dick!
I have recently begun searcing out these auctioneers. When i read what some of them actually put into print I laugh out loud. I will enter the auction only to type a messege stating tahat I would not be helping them to add extra bidding simply due to the exorbatant seller premium and the lack of shipping service.
The idea of customer service completely escapes these people.
You are absolutely right on all points. Any auction charging over 10% buyer’s fee for gold essentially ensures the onsite crowd will snare the coin. We will be posting soon on a “new gold standard” for Proxibid, slightly off of your topic, I know, but related to it. Customer service is everything when dealing with online buyers. Thank you for sharing your viewpoint!
